Community Care Certification

 A small-group, practice-based certification completed in two days. Perfect for caregivers, organizers, aunties/uncties, chosen family and neighbors who want practical, culturally rooted tools—without a long timeline.


Seats: 10 per cohort | Format: Virtual or in-person (location announced per cohort) Schedule: 2 days · 3 modules each day (days & times TBD for each cohort)


Who it’s for

  • Parents, aunties/uncties, mutual-aid folks, community members, chosen family, community health workers
  • People supporting loved ones through birth, illness, loss, re-entry, or crisis
  • Anyone building skills for safer, more affirming community spaces
     

What you’ll learn

  1. Foundations of Community Care – roots & politics, consent, harm reduction, conflict/compassion micro-skills
  2. Trauma-Informed Approaches & De-escalation – nervous system basics, grounding, listening, de-escalation flow
  3. Legal/Medical Advocacy & Navigating Systems – appointment prep, consent/refusal, escalation ladders, discharge & red flags
  4. Boundaries, Rest & Burnout Prevention – “yes with limits / no with care,” rest planning, buddy systems, digital boundaries
  5. Kinship-Based & Inclusive Family Support – inclusive language, pods & safety webs, visitor plans, consent check-ins
  6. Capstone + Certification – present your community care plan, peer feedback, next-step pathway

Typical 5-hour session

  1. Grounding & agreements (10–15 min)
  2. Mini-lesson (25–35 min)
  3. Hands-on lab / role plays (60–75 min)
  4. Break (10–15 min)
  5. Tools practice (60–75 min)
  6. Small-group debrief (30–40 min)
  7. Close & next steps (10 min)
     

You’ll leave with

  • 40-page workbook (checklists, scripts, templates)
  • Care agreements, boundary scripts, 7-day rest plan
  • Appointment prep sheets & clinic/hospital escalation cards
  • Kinship-pod & safety-web templates + conflict/de-escalation scripts
  • A capstone care plan you can run in your home, pod, org, or block
  • Certificate of completion + alumni peer-pod invites
     

Practice & assessment

  • Between sessions: 20–40 minutes of light practice (e.g., try a script, map a pod)
  • Capstone: a small, real-life act of care you can run in 2–4 weeks
    • Examples: host a 60-min family care circle; build a ride/meal pod; create an appointment-prep station
  • Check-out: quick viva or portfolio share in Module 6
     

Certification checklist

  • Attend 5 of 6 live modules (make-up options available)
  • Complete capstone within 30 days of final session
  • Submit a short reflection + copies/photos of your tools
  • Agree to the Care Agreement (consent, confidentiality, repair)
     

Access & pricing

  • Payment plan: two payments of $125 (or custom)
  • Scholarships: 5 full + 5 half awards annually — No one turned away for lack of funds
  • Access services: ASL/CART or language interpretation with notice; step-free venues whenever possible; childcare/transport mini-stipends for public cohorts
  • Materials: printable PDFs + optional mailed packet (by request)
  • Tech: Zoom link, Google Drive folder, optional WhatsApp/Signal group
     

Policies

  • Attendance: 1 live make-up per cohort; recordings available when content allows
  • Refunds: full 7+ days before start; 50% within 7 days; credit if your seat is filled
  • Code of care: consent, anti-harassment, confidentiality, repair practices
     

Who you’ll learn from

  • Lead organizer/facilitator with healing-justice and community-health practice
  • Guest tradition bearers for herbal/cultural sessions
  • Alumni co-teachers as available
     

After you graduate

  • Certificate + 10% off public Skill-Ups for one year
  • Optional listing in our Cousin Directory (opt-in)
  • Facilitator pathway: add 3 Skill-Ups + shadow/co-teach hours to lead sessions

Virtual or in-person? Depends on the cohort; we publish the format on the calendar.
How much between-day work? A light assignment (20–40 minutes) to test a tool.
Do I need prior experience? No—come as you are.
